Kamala Nehru  was the wife of India's first leader, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Kamala Nehru was the wife of India’s first leader, Jawaharlal Nehru. His daughter Indira Gandhi or Bharat was the first woman Prime Minister.

Early life and marriage

Kamla Kaul was born on 1 August 1899 in Rosy Junya, Delhi, in the family of Rajpati and Jawahar Mul Atal-Kaul, a Kashmiri Pandit family. 9–11  She was the eldest and she had two brothers, Chand Bahadur Kaul and a botanist, Kailas Nath Kaul and a sister, Swaroop Kathju.

Kamala married Jawaharlal Nehru at the age of 16. [page Immediately after marriage, her husband went to the Himalayas. His autobiography, Jawaharlal Nehru, refers to his wife.” Nehru gave birth to a daughter, Indira Priyadarshini, in November 1917, who later succeeded her father as Prime Minister and head of the Congress party.

Harilal Gandhi Movement 1931

Kamala Nehru had joined the national movement along with Harilal Gandhi and quickly became the leader. During the non-cooperation movement of 1921. she formed a women’s group in Allahabad and set up shops selling bananas and foreign clothes and liquor. She decided to wake her up and deliver her speech in front of a large crowd of supporters (full of her supporters).

The British will soon find out what threat they have to Kamla Nehru and how popular . she has become among women’s groups all over India. She was given two additional occasions for her participation in the freedom struggle along with Sarojini Naidu, Kamala Nehru and many other women in the Indian freedom struggle. During this time, she started a dispensary in her house, Swaraj Bhawan, for the treatment of injured workers, their families and residents of Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj)

After her death, Mahatma Gandhi, with the help of other prominent leaders, converted the hospital into a hospital worthy of being known as the Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital in her memory.

Kamala Nehru spent some time with Kasturba Gandhi at Gandhi’s ashram, where she developed a close friendship with Prabhavati Devi, wife of freedom fighter Jayaprakash Narayan. : 90-92  They would have been freedom fighters for Indian independence from the British .

Kamala Nehru died of tuberculosis on 28 February 1936 in Luzhnay, Switzerland, with her daughter and mother-in-law by her side. In her last few years, Kamala Nehru was frequently ill and was taken to a sanatorium in Switzerland for treatment, but after she recovered she returned to India. In early 1935, when Kamala Nehru’s health deteriorated again, Subhash Chandra Bose took her to Badenweller, Germany and admitted her to a sanatorium for treatment. Her husband Jawaharlal Nehru would have been imprisoned in India at that time. Due to deteriorating health, Jawaharlal Nehru was released from prison and left for Germany in October 1935. Nehru’s health initially improved, but in 1936 it deteriorated again and he died on 28 February. The preface to his autobiography, a chapter added after Kamala’s death, Jawaharlal Nehru Sangat would have been devastated and mourned for months.
